Abu Dhabi’s Top 5 Attractions

Abu Dhabi tends to be overlooked when it comes to experiential travel since it’s seen as Dubai’s under-the-radar older sibling, despite being equally captivating. However, there really is something for everyone. The capital city boasts five-star entertainment, with a broad range of activities that cater to every tourist. It is home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels, ground-breaking art galleries, and a unique culinary scene shaped by a melting pot of cultures.

Here are some of Abu Dhabi’s most interesting attractions:

Visit Louvre Abu Dhabi

Fear not, you haven’t clicked on a blog about Paris. This is the world’s only other Louvre, which opened in 2017 as part of a long-term partnership of cultural exchange between the UAE and France. A piece of art in its own right, the museum is located on Saadiyat Island, set above water and interlinked with medina-inspired walkways. While you can sign up for an express tour where you’ll benefit from a guide, you can also spend the day strolling around at your own pace – the choice is yours.

Camp In The Empty Quarter

Just a short drive from the city centre, you’ll find the world’s largest uninterrupted sand mass at the Empty Quarter (as well as an abundance of desert activities!) Ride the dunes in a for-wheel-drive or go surfing on a sand board, before tucking into an authentic barbecue. And whether you choose to camp or glamp, you’ll spend the night soaking up the peacefulness of the desert… You might even spot a Liwa desert camel walking around!

Kayak Through A Mangrove Forest

While sleek skyscrapers and iconic cityscapes never fail to impress, the Mangrove National Park is a welcome escape from the bustling city centre. Rich in biodiversity, it’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature, and this makes it one of Abu Dhabi’s most treasured ecological assets. During your guided kayaking tour through the mangrove channels, you’ll be sure to spot plenty of wildlife, including fish, crabs, turtles, herons, flamingos, foxes and dugongs.

Practise Heritage Crafts At House Of Artisans

For a real taste of the UAE’s rich heritage, visit some local souks (markets) as well as the House of Artisans. Here, they promote the preservation of centuries-old skills passed down for generations, through educational workshops and training courses as well as daily showcases. Try your hand at some crafts or pick up a souvenir for a loved one back home!

Visit Yas Island

Home to the magnificent Yas Marina Circuit (location of the annual Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix), Yas Island is a great place to go for fun-filled days. Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi are just some of the incredible must-visit attractions, especially for families. But if relaxation is what you’re after, you’ll also find an immaculate beach with bars, DJs and private chalets.
